Silhouette is an image that shows the outline of a subject, such as a person, animal, object, or monument, in solid colour (mostly black) against a lighter background.

In photography, when you place the subject between the light source and the camera, a silhouette is created. The subject appears dark while the background remains bright. A distinct outline of the subject, along with a clear background, creates a good silhouette. During sunrise and sunset, the light is dramatic and is positioned low in the sky. That is a good time to shoot silhouettes outdoors.
